As the first meeting with the Slow Travel Festival, just ended in Tuscany a few days ago, we are not surprised that so many people from all over Europe joined to take part to get together and walk through this beautiful land.
Being in touch with its people and traditions, choosing a different way to visit Tuscany in solitude or in group can be a new way to rethink distances and places, to discover the real soul of a land and its own culture.
Speaking of slow tourism and local traditions, Tuscany seems be the ideal place on earth.
Slow is better
Choosing slow tourism does not only mean to be sporty. It is true that the people that took part to the festival decided to travel through Tuscany by bike, on foot, on a horse and all kind of sustainable transport means. But there’s something more.
Travelling through the region at a slow rhythm, you have the occasion to really get in touch with it. Not having to face with pressing time sheets and programs, you can really enjoy to be in a place, to breathe its atmosphere and to rest your mind.
Choosing a sustainable holiday it’s something that goes beyond being green, eating only biological grocery or sleeping in a family run farmhouse. There’s something more in the decision to spent some time apart, looking for the real soul of a place. It’s a kind of showing respect.
In Tuscany you can certainly find your pace of life
You find cozy family run homestays, good local food, typical traditions alive, you breathe some fresh air. All these things can help you to rest and to get rid of all your worries and stress in a few days of holiday in Tuscany.
If you haven’t decided to leave yet, here are some more words to convince you:
Respect – choosing a sustainable accommodation means to be respectful of the beautiful land we visit. By staying in an homestay instead of a big hotel you will have the possibility to feel grateful and to give back to nature. You will understand what does it mean to grow food and you will go home with a different sense of belonging to this world;
Break – you don’t really have a break from stress and routine if you go to 24h a day hyper connected hotel, checking your email 30 times a minute and posting every single thought you make on all our social networks. If a break is what you really need, Tuscany and its warm farmhouses on the hills are what you need. Better than a Spa treatment, try to believe it!
Friends – whether you stay a night or a week, being welcomed in a homestay means to receive a family style treatment. You will meet other people, the hotel owners will treat you as family and you will inevitably be part of something. You won’t be just a room number, but a person, with needs and expectations, and, most important of all, with a story to tell and experiences to share.
Traditions – Tuscany has a thousand traditions to discover. It’s an old land, full of stories and traditions and the best way to meet them is to live with them. You won’t really understand how wine is made if you don’t visit a vineyard, smell the flavor of just-harvested grapes and taste the new wine with those who actually made it. Understand?
Enrichment – all the above experiences will make you feel enriched. That’s why so many people are more and more deciding to go on a slow vacation. It’s more than going on a trekking tour or using sustainable means of transport. Going slow means to be really part of a place, to meet its people and to really understand its traditions.
Visit Tuscany in a different way. Choose a homestay or a typical accommodation. Go slow and take your time.
You will love it and no matter if you won’t be able to visit every single museum of Florence or to cross all the hills, you will certainly be willing to come back, next time!
